Excel 2013 - General Mail Failure when "Share Email Send as attachment"

Hi all,

We are running Office 2013 on our 2008 r2 Citrix 6.5 servers and having an issue when trying to "send to" via Excel 2013. We have patched our servers with MS updates and we are still seeing the following error. We can send from Word and other office apps with out an issue. Mailto also works as it should. We are running Outlook 2013 with Exchange Online.

I have tried safe mode for Excel etc and still can't seem to figure out why this is happening. I would prefer not to re-install office as we have over 100 servers.

I'm just wondering if someone has come across this before.

Microsoft Excel
General mail failure.
Quit Microsoft Excel, restart the mail system, and try again.

Hi Dejul:

Was there previous version Outlook installed in your system along with Outlook 2013? Was earlier version Outlook running when you attempted to send the file? If these two condition existed, please follow below steps:

  1. Exit the earlier version of Outlook that is currently running (earlier is any version before Outlook 2013.
  2. Start Outlook 2013.
  3. Send your Excel again.

       Reference: KB 2785945

If it's none of above scenario , we may try below approach:

  1. Open Registry Editor
  2. Locate the following Registry Key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows messaging subsystem\MSMapiApps
  3. Export the Registry Key
  4. Close Outlook
  5. Rename MSMapiApps
  6. Restart Outlook and try send to of Excel again

Theres more suggestions provided in This thread. Above step is the most recommended one.

Let me know the result, thank you.

Unfortunately the above has not fixed the issue.

I have run an office repair and this hasn't solved the issue.

We are running Outlook in Online mode, if I change outlook to cached mode then Excel is able to share the document. However, this is not an option that we can enable for all users.

Cheers

Hi,

Is this issue only happening with "send to" of Excel? Have you tried Word or other type of files to see if this issue occurs?

I tested with online mode from my side, the mail wasn't created immediately but after a while.

Please help me with above questions, I will also keep looking see if i can find anything.

Thank you.

Thanks Chloe - This only occurs in Excel, it works fine in other applications (word, Acrobat). I have now logged this as an issue with Microsoft.
